We are impressed with the quality of your software! Symbolic Composer has also been tested in the Softpedia labs using several industry-leading security solutions and found to be completely clean of adware/spyware components."

"SCOM 7.3 has worked beautifully and I'm amazed how quickly I get scores done with the new Define Score menus! It’s also awesome how it compiles even my very early scores, which needed just ticks-to-ratios conversion. There’s indeed some magic in SCOM, which is not found in any other composition platforms!" (Nigel Morgan, the author of Parametric Composition book and SCOM’s N-Gel Module & Chicago Quartet score contribs).
"I feel like this is a MAJOR jump for SCOM 7. Thanks for the continually development. Not many programs have that kind of pedigree in an essentially steady and linear improvement in functions!"
"This mail just for say to you my first impression of the new SCOM 6.5: Awesome!! 'm so happy with the new menus, chords and degree scales, I love the new workflow upgrades and I love in general the look and feel."

"Congratulation for the new release of SCOM with Sibelius and Finale Support!"

"I love SCOM because it is so pure. I don't want alternatives!"

"It's really the most wonderful tool I have ever seen for music composition."

"SCOM steps beyond notation and playing skills, like no other software can do."

"It's all I need for music composition besides Logic and softsynths."

Sep 15 2016 - Symbolic Composer 7.3 is a cross-platform music composition language, that let's you program your music using sophisticated algorithms.

Symbolic Composer 7.3 is a toolbox for stretching your musical creativity, and was designed to give you total freedom to write music.

Furthermore, Symbolic Composer 7.3 provides almost all known world-music tunings and micro-tonalities, and its libraries cover past 500 years of compositional traditions.

SCOM Music Language

• Music Language, that allows composing music of any style and complexity.

• Full Symbolic, which means you do not need to focus on low-level note and notation details, instead you can focus on higher pure symbolic level.

• Context-Free, which means Symbolic Composer allows composing music of any style and complexity.

• Standard MIDI file output. Symbolic Composer is full compatible with all MIDI-compatible music software.

• Build-in 96 channel MIDI playback. Plays through GM MIDI or IAC for final sounds. Press button to record and publish results.

• Full Documentation, Help, Example Scores & Search included.

• Powerful Section-Chaining with direct Listen and Play commands. Easy to read & write scores without typical "low level programming mess". Yet full Common Lisp is build-in if you want to extend SCOM with your own functions.

• Mathematical Generators & Processors provide advanced fractals, chaos and number-theory functions.

• Symbolic Generators & Processors allow Recursion, L-systems, Fibonacci, and other special solutions.

• Programmable Neurons supply added intelligence to your instrumentation.

• Programmable Phrase Library allows sequential drum and chording pattern generation.

• Historical & Contemporary Music functions supply the classic compositional tools.

• Over 1000 Algorithms included, chain and combine them freely.

• Complete Chord, Scale and Micro-Tonal libraries fully expandable by the user.

Integrates With Your Studio

Symbolic Composer lets you program any detail of your music. It's a thinking tool for melody, harmony, rhyhtm and structural arrangements. Make music from mathematics, astronomy, even genetics and atomic structures.

Symbolic Composer integrates to your DAW and plugins, since it works side by side with Logic, Ableton, Sibelius, Finale, Encore, Digital Performer, Reason, Reaktor, Rondo, QuickTime, Cubase, Renoise, Reaper, MainStage and MuseScore.

"SCOM's rich music programming language supplies the composer tools to program any music style and complexity. Simply put, SCOM is the most efficient, rugged and bug-free music composition language at your fingertips with over 30 years of development", summarizes composer and music educator Nigel Morgan from UK.

Does Audio & Notation, too

SCOM includes integrated playback and notation capabilities. Playback is handled by build-in MidiTrail, which displays music timelines, or does even 3D visualization. Notation is realized either with Lilypond or MuseScoreNightly, both free industry-grade apps.

Use your DAW to finalize the score, or use Apple's MainStage to get immediate pro-quality audio right from SCOM scores. Here showing SCOM playing back using MainStage and Arturia Synthesizers.

System Requirements

The program runs first in demo mode, which allows you to view the interface and documentation, and open up scores for simulated compile and playback. Authorization keycode removes the limits and restores SCOM into full operation.
Macintosh OS X 10.6-10.12,  4 GB RAM minimum, 8-32 GB suggested.
Windows XP/7/8/10, 2 GB RAM minimum, 4-16 GB suggested.

SCOM Shortly

Symbolic Composer is a non-profit Artificial Intelligence project, and needs your contribution to cover maintenance costs caused by OS changes, bug fixes and new function additions. Upgrades are used to cover these costs. You can also contribute by submitting Lisp functions and scores made with SCOM. Keep it green yourself and compose because you can.

“Symbolic Composer was one of the first systems that I encountered that explored the art of algorithmic composing interactively. The system functions are selected from hierarchical menus and pasted on the editor, so it’s a completely different approach to musical compositions. It’s like composing music from one’s DNA structure.”, Composer Richard Devine.

"Nowadays, symmetries are widely used in musical composition, for instance in the various transformation tools of sequencers, and explicitly in the author‚s prestor (see chapter 49) and in Opcode‚s MAX or in music software with fractal composition tools as realized by Mesias Maiguashca [220] or by the ingenious Symbolic Composer software.",  Mazzola G., Author of Topos Of Music (If the direct link has changed, search the title "The Topos of Music" at Springeronline)

"I wish to thanks people that have contributed in important way to the creation of this book:
All the developers of the wonderful algorithmic composition software Symbolic Composer, that I have used for the composition of the exercises - and Douglas R. Hofstadter for the beauty of his ideas on the perception, and parallels to artificial intelligence", Claudio Martini, Author Of I Pattern Automutanti.
